This Past Valentine’s Day…..

2-2015 1731 (2)This Valentine’s Day, I decided that I would be my nieces valentine (cause that’s how I roll!). I’m all about empowering women (even little girls) to be self-sufficient and love themselves how they are and not how other people want them to be. If we don’t show them that they are loved for who they are now (especially at a young age), then they will grow up and end up trying to change themselves for other people. But I digress…..

For this occasion, I decided to mail them a Valentine’s Day box. These items are very easy to make and won’t cost you an arm and leg to get the supplies. I picked a box that I had around the house (it can be any box, it just needs to be small enough to suit your needs) and decorated the outside of a box with different shapes and words using markers and construction paper. Inside, I had hearts cut out with different sayings on them (i.e. you make my heart glow, you’re beautiful, I like how you roll, I’m hooked on you, etc.). I added chocolate and some very special gifts for each of them. My nieces are all about making crafty things (hmm, I wonder who they got that from?), so I decided to decorate and make some picture frames and glitter earrings for them. Unfortunately, I was unable to mail it, so I hand delivered it instead!

Here is how I made the picture frames. You will need :

– Picture Frames

– Acrylic Paint

– Mod Podge Gloss

– Whatever you want to decorate the frame (stickers, gems, etc.)

I bought two picture frames from the Dollar Tree (because why buy an expensive one when all you’re going to do is paint over it anyway). I used their favorite colors, blue and purple, and painted the picture frames using acrylic paint. After the paint dried, I used Mod Podge Gloss (because Mod Podge rocks!) to paint and coat the picture frames. This allows the paint to appear glossy and shiny after it dries.

Once everything was dry, I placed stickers on the frame (on sale from Michaels) and viola! Here’s a picture of the picture frames:

I also made and included some glitter earrings I saw on Thanks, I Made It. I mixed together a bunch of different colors of glitter (you can get the glitter cheap at any store) and used it to make the earrings. After everything dried, I arranged the earrings on a flower.

To say that they loved the gift would be an understatement. Although they loved the earrings and pictures frame, I think they were more excited to read all the positive words that were written on the hearts about them.
